Currently the NHS will only supply free synthetic wigs to those under 16 or those able to fulfil their financial criteria. They also advise that these wigs may not suit black or ethnic patients, and suggest that these patients source wigs via a specialist supplier, which would be a chargeable service.
Children & young people up to the age 24, can obtain free human hair wigs from an alternative UK charity, but these do not cater for adults.
OneWig OneSmile will assist those individuals who are missed by NHS catchment criteria, and this other organisation by providing free real hair wigs.
We offer different range of wigs for all ethnic backgrounds. Although we provide a unique service for the BAME people, this is because it is a service currently not offered within not-for-profit organisations in the UK and alot of women within this group finds it difficult to access wigs that are suitable for their hair type and style. We believe that suitable wigs should be offered regardless of race, in order for the recipient to feel as natural as possible during a potentially difficult time. This requires access to a range of darker colours, and the option of hand tied cornrow, afro or single plaits to give a unique choice of style. Our braided wigs are all made with 80% Human Hair, with added hair extensions, which are very light & comfortable to wear. Please note that our service covers all ethnic backgrounds.
